Manchester United ace labelled ‘quite similar’ to Cristiano Ronaldo by teammate

Alejandro Garnacho’s admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo has earned the Manchester United starlet a few jibes at international level but Argentina team-mate Leandro Paredes admits that the winger has shades of the Premier League giant in his game.

With his ‘siuu’ celebration, his penchant for overhead kicks, and his peroxide tips, Alejandro Garnacho has always been a card carrying member of the Ronaldo fanclub.

And, as you might expect in Lionel Messi-loving Argentina, Garnacho’s Albiceleste team-mates have not missed an opportunity to jokingly remind the Manchester United whizzkid where his loyalties should lie.

“We joked about it with him,” Paredes, a member of Lionel Scaloni’s World Cup winning squad, tells D Sports. “He is very shy and does not answer. Poor guy, we drove him crazy!”

Ajelandro Garnacho idolises Cristiano Ronaldo

A bit of good old-fashioned hazing is just part of the process, of course, with Garnacho still a relative newcomer to the Argentina ranks.

The Madrid-born teenager finally made his senior international bow in June, and looks well-placed to add to his tally of three caps following a fine run of form at club level under Erik ten Hag.

“We try to make (the youngsters) feel part of it and feel comfortable,” the experienced Paredes adds, Garnacho’s tattoos and perfectly-crafted eyebrows belying a rather shy character off the pitch.

“In this case, he got very nervous and couldn’t talk. But as he said, I think (Ronaldo) is his idol. He always followed him a lot and he plays quite similar.”

Going from strength to strength

Garnacho has been a shining light in a dark season at Manchester United, following up that Goal of the Season contender against Everton with another strike versus Galatasaray and an assist in last week’s 2-1 triumph over Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Garnacho has even relegated last season’s 30-goal top scorer Marcus Rashford to the substitute’s bench in recent outings, though it was illness which kept the Englishman of Ten Hag’s team sheet against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
