Sergio Romero’s penalty save on his second appearance for Boca Juniors didn’t go unnoticed by his former Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford.
Despite signing for the Argentinian giants in August last year, following his departure from Italian side Venezia, Romero had yet to make his debut for his new club prior to the start of the new season after picking up a knee injury.
But the 35-year-old has started the new campaign in fine form and is yet to concede a goal in his two outings for Boca.
In yesterday’s league clash against Central Cordoba, the 96-time Argentina international made amends for conceding a penalty, which he was booked for, by saving the spot kick.

Despite seemingly diving in the opposite direction, Romero showed great reflexes to save the penalty with his outstretched left foot and divert the ball to safety much to the delight of his teammates.
After Boca posted a clip of the penalty save on Instagram, Rashford commented ‘Chiqui’, which is Spanish for tiny and is Romero’s nickname.
Rashford and Romero played alongside one and other 38 times for Manchester United’s first team, and they also played together once for the club’s under-21s back in 2016.
The pair won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League with the Red Devils, as well as the Community Shield.
After being signed by Louis van Gaal with David de Gea seemingly Real Madrid bound, prior to a fax machine hiccup, Romero made 61 appearances for the twenty-time league champions and registered 39 clean sheets.
Romero left United as a free agent in June 2021, before heading to Venezia, with his last appearance for the Reds coming in August 2020.
