Former Man United star lashes out at manager’s system after being dropped to bench

While questions are being asked of Ruben Amorim’s system at Manchester United, a former player could not hide his frustration on international duty.

Ruben Amorim finds himself under huge pressure at Manchester United following an underwhelming start to the season, and in particular, his 3-4-2-1 system is being heavily scrutinised.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has backed Amorim and insisted he wants to give him three years in charge of the club before making a decision on his future.

Anthony Elanga complains about manager’s system

There has been a major clearout of United’s squad in recent years, and Anthony Elanga was one of many players who headed for the exit at Old Trafford.

Elanga was sold to Nottingham Forest for £15m, and he has since made a £55m move to Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old Carrington graduate was named in the latest Sweden squad, but was named on the bench for their latest 1-0 defeat to Kosovo, only making it onto the pitch for the second half.

According to Swedish outlet SportBladet, Elanga had an outburst in the tunnel after the full-time whistle, saying “the damn system must go”.

Under-pressure Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson was asked about Elanga’s comments in his press conference, but he replied: “I haven’t heard what he said so I can’t comment on it.

Anthony Elanga had a ‘wonderful attitude’ at Man United

Of all United’s former players, not many would suspect Elanga of ever throwing a manager under the bus.

In fact, during his time at Old Trafford, United legend Rio Ferdinand said Elanga had a “wonderful attitude” as a player.

“This kid is a wonderful player, but the thing I love is that he’s got a wonderful attitude,” Ferdinand said.

United staff doubted Elanga during his time in Manchester, and so he headed for the exit to pursue more game time elsewhere.
