Rasmus Hojlund earned high praise from Ruben Amorim and the Manchester United striker was not alone with what he was doing against West Ham on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim deployed the 22-year-old Danish forward as the lone striker for 66 minutes of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over West Ham at the MetLife Stadium.
Rasmus Hojlund put in a strong shift in the first half and the Denmark international came close to scoring for the first time on the pre-season tour this summer.
The United striker was denied by the post in the opening minute of the pre-season friendly in East Rutherford and Hojlund remained a lively presence on the pitch.
Hojlund would be hooked off for Chido Obi in the second half of United’s clash with West Ham, but he received a much-needed confidence boost with his display.
The Denmark striker had more influence in the attack compared with his uneventful performance in United’s pre-season opener against Leeds United earlier this month.

Ruben Amorim’s praise for Rasmus Hojlund also showed what other Man Utd players did vs West Ham at the MetLife Stadium
Ruben Amorim singled out Rasmus Hojlund after Sunday’s 2-1 win and the 40-year-old Manchester United manager talked up the Denmark star’s display on the pitch.
Hojlund’s struggles at United continued in his second full season at Old Trafford and the former Atalanta man’s long-term future at the Red Devils had been in doubt.
The Denmark international has insisted that he intends to remain at United, but Hojlund has been linked with Inter Milan, AC Milan and Roma this summer.
Amorim’s praise of Hojlund’s performance for United against West Ham in East Rutherford included admiration for his work ethic and fighting determination.
However, Harry Robinson’s editorial piece for Manchester United’s official website revealed that Hojlund’s strength against his markers was matched by other players.
Four of the five United players that “did the same” as Hojlund on the pitch on the weekend were Patrick Dorgu, Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo.
Manuel Ugarte also did what Rasmus Hojlund was doing vs West Ham and the eye-catching detail from the Man Utd midfielder
Manuel Ugarte impressed United fans with his performance in New Jersey and the 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder produced a dominating showing in midfield.
United manager Amorim deployed the Uruguay international from the start and Kobbie Mainoo left an impression on United fans as well after he was partnered with Ugarte.
According to Harry Robinson, Ugarte was one player who did what Hojlund earned praise about from Amorim and he did it “plenty of times” against West Ham.
United will be back in action for their next Premier League Summer Series clash on Thursday, with the Red Devils facing Bournemouth at the Soldier Field in Chicago.
