Manchester United fans immediately reacted to the telling midfield display from Kobbie Mainoo after the Red Devils’ pre-season friendly match against West Ham.

The Red Devils were in action on Sunday for the first clash of their three-match visit to the United States this summer, with Manchester United travelling to New Jersey.

United met fellow Premier League side West Ham in East Rutherford and the Red Devils picked up their first win of their pre-season campaign under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils took the lead in their Premier League Summer Series tie at the MetLife Stadium after Bruno Fernandes converted his penalty in the fifth minute.

United held a 1-0 lead over West Ham going into half-time and Ruben Amorim’s men doubled their advantage in the second half after Bruno Fernandes scored his second.

Jarrod Bowen pulled one back for the Hammers in the 63rd minute, but the superb brace from Fernandes was enough for United to secure a 2-1 win over West Ham.

Man Utd fans reacted to Kobbie Mainoo’s midfield display vs West Ham in the pre-season friendly at the MetLife Stadium

Kobbie Mainoo was in the heart of midfield for Sunday’s 2-1 win and Ruben Amorim played the 20-year-old Red Devils talent alongside Manuel Ugarte against West Ham.

The Stockport-born player started the Premier League Summer Series match at the MetLife Stadium and was withdrawn in the 66th minute for midfielder Toby Collyer.

However, Mainoo did not leave the pitch without picking up an assist for Bruno Fernandes’ second of the match and he left a lasting impression on United fans.

One X user posted: “Amorim wasn’t lying when he said he had big plans for Mainoo this coming season. Bro gave us a commanding performance today.”

While a second Red Devils supporter wrote: “Can’t be sold under any circumstance: Mainoo is simply a superstar.”

“Mainoo, do not think I didn’t notice this performance,” a third United fan added.

Another said: “Give Kobbie Mainoo the keys to this midfield!”

Someone else commented: “I’ve really enjoyed watching Ugarte and Mainoo in the midfield.”

“Ugarte and Mainoo pivot has been class,” a sixth tweeted.

And a seventh suggested: “Mainoo seems faster than he was last season.”

Somebody else claimed: “I’ve missed how press-resistant Mainoo is!”

Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte’s midfield pivot vs West Ham showed promising signs for Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim

Manuel Ugarte produced a solid showing alongside fellow Red Devils midfielder Mainoo in Amorim’s tactical system for United in the pre-season friendly tie.

Mainoo’s second full season in the United first-team squad since his emergence under Erik ten Hag was hindered at times due to injuries in the 2024-25 season.

However, Amorim had Mainoo as part of his plans even after Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October and the midfielder has incredible potential.

Mainoo showed superb composure on and off the ball against West Ham and the England international seamlessly partnered alongside Ugarte in the midfield.

The sky is the limit for the United and England midfielder and there is no doubt that fans will want to see more of the Mainoo-Ugarte pivot during the tour this summer.
