Teden Mengi has enjoyed some of his finest football in years, as he left Manchester United in the summer in a bid for minutes on the pitch.
He’s done just that. Teden Mengi has found a home in Kenilworth Road, where the former Manchester United academy product has now become a regular starter for Luton Town.
He’s featured 10 times for the Hatters this season, with his 11th appearance coming against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
It’s safe to say he’ll want to forget something that happened in this fixture, with it arguably costing Luton the game.
Teden Mengi makes big mistake for Jack Grealish goal
Luton Town were in dreamland against the Premier League champions going into half-time, they remarkably found themselves 1-0 up.
However, the second half provided two quick blows for Luton. A Bernardo Silva strike in the 62nd minute was followed three minutes later by a Jack Grealish strike – which Mengi was definitely at fault for.
The ball was played across by Julian Alvarez, when the former United talent slipped as he went to clear, missing the ball entirely and allowing the Grealish the space and time to calmly slot past their keeper.
The match finished 2-1 to the Cityzen’s, with this being the deciding goal. He’d had a good game until then – such a shame.
Fans react to Teden Mengi mistake
Fans quickly took to X to criticise the ex-United star, with some stating that was defending straight off the Carrington Training Ground.
One says: ‘Defending from Mengi there that could only have been taught at Carrington…’
‘That’s an absolute war crime from that Mengi hahahaha how has he just let Grealish get there,’ says another.
Another adds: ‘That’s the worst defending I’ve ever seen what is that Mengi fella doing.’
‘Teden Mengi with some of the worst defending you’ll ever see there,’ another chimes in.
A final adds: ‘Mengi going back to his Man Utd days with that kind of defending.’
Not one of the young man’s finest moments. This slip paints Mengi in a bad light, but he has been good for Luton this season.
This was only a minor blip, we think Mengi will go from strength to strength away from Old Trafford as he develops in his career.
