Facundo Pellistri is set for talks over a new Manchester United contract next month.

That is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, who says that discussions are planned for next month between the player and the club.

He says that United may make Pellistri the offer of a new deal ahead of the summer transfer window.

Pellistri has had something of a breakthrough season under Erik ten Hag, who has given him a chance to show what he can do in exciting cameos.

Facundo Pellistri set for talks over new Manchester United contract

His tweet read: “Understand Manchester United are now considering a new contract proposal to Facundo Pellistri before letting him go on loan next season.

“No decision made yet on both sides but concrete talks will take place in April to plan Facundo’s future.”

Pellistri is still waiting for a first United start, but caught the eye with his substitute appearance against Real Betis last Thursday.

BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves was raving about him, as he helped United turn 3-1 into 4-1 ahead of this week’s return leg.

The Manchester Evening News reported this week that United are preparing to allow Pellistri to leave on loan in the summer and it seems Romano has heard similar.

That would be slightly disappointing, given Pellistri has shown signs of what he can do in a red shirt and United are not exactly flush with wide options.

But under Ten Hag, you know he would not be going on loan for the sake of it; there would be a clear, long-term plan with Pellistri’s development in mind.

Pellistri recently made it clear on Instagram how proud he is to be a United player, and Ten Hag praised him ahead of the Southampton game for his performances in training.

In an interview with ESPN Uruguay before the World Cup, Pellistri’s agent Edgardo Lasalvia said the winger would go on loan in January, but that did not happen and he has taken the chances he has got since impressively.
