As a surprise call-up to the squad, Pellistri’s involvement as a starter has been somewhat surprising.

Yet already, he has won the fans over, with a wondrous run to for his first international assist.

Picking the ball up outside the box, Pellistri weaved through two defenders and past a third before laying on a pass for Giorgian De Arrascaeta to score a tap in.

It was a fantastic piece of wing play, showing close control and bravery to take players on. You can watch it below…

Edinson Cavani then scored a third goal for Uruguay shortly after with an acrobatic overhead kick into an empty net.

United have a gem

Deemed not good enough to be a regular starter for Alaves, Pellistri is more than good enough to start for Uruguay.

This win takes Uruguay closer to sealing World Cup qualification with two qualifiers still to play.

Manchester United may have bought a gem back in 2020, one who could start at the World Cup later this year.

His assist was a real showcase of his talent, and it makes United’s treatment of him even more perplexing.

United should not have left him at relegation battling Alaves, a new loan should have been found for him instead.

With wing play like that, he would have been better off backing up Jadon Sancho on United’s right, rather than have to turn to Juan Mata there now, with Greenwood discarded and Amad loaned out.

Pellistri confirmed tonight he has a very bright future. United must not waste it.
