Facundo Pellistri called up by Uruguay

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri has been injured all season so far but has been called up by Uruguay.

Uruguay play Iran and Canada later this month as they continue their preparations for the World Cup later this year.

Pellistri has had a foot injury all season, as per Premier Injuries, but it was reported earlier this month that he was in the final stages of his recovery.

And it seems that Diego Alonso feels he will be fit enough to play some part in his side’s final fixtures before the tournament in Qatar kicks off.

Pellistri called up by Uruguay

Pellistri has struggled to establish himself at United and had a tough loan spell in La Liga with Alaves last season.

But he has been called up for Uruguay consistently despite this, and his latest performance for his country may just have booked his World Cup 2022 spot.

In June, Pellistri provided a superb assist for former United striker Edinson Cavani to score his first goal in a brace as Uruguay beat Mexico 3-0.

He has established himself in the international setup to the extent where he is called up even when injured and with no recent form to go on.

His latest injury blocked the prospect of a loan deal this summer, which could hand him the chance to make a United breakthrough.

It would be a boost if he could get some form and fitness on international duty and bring that back to club level.

The Europa League and EFL Cup are the most likely prospects for gametime for Pellistri, especially if Erik ten Hag has to rotate his squad through a frantic October.

It is likely the Dutchman will be keeping an eye on his progress, checking in to see if he makes a first appearance of the season.
