Fabrizio Romano says there’s ‘nothing really serious’ connecting Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd star to Champions League club

Fabrizio Romano has insisted that an elite European team are “not going” after one of Ruben Amorim’s first-team Manchester United players in the summer window.

Ruben Amorim will begin his own overhaul at Old Trafford at the end of the season after inheriting Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United first-team squad in 2024.

The 40-year-old United manager has already seen the likes of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven arrive from Lecce and Arsenal respectively in the January window.

Amorim has also wasted no time offloading players from Old Trafford before the window winter closed, with Marcus Rashford and Antony both sent out on loan.

United will be expected to axe further players in the summer window in a bid to free up wages and sign new players for former Sporting CP manager Amorim.

However, the Red Devils could be limited with their spending power due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and United’s crippling financials.

Romano’s transfer update on Man Utd ace

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano dropped an update on the future of injured Manchester United star Mason Mount under Ruben Amorim.

Mason Mount has been sidelined with an injury and the 26-year-old United player has not featured for the Red Devils since the end of 2024.

The former Chelsea ace has been limited to 12 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 season and Mount has not scored or picked up an assist for United.

Mount came off injured in the 2-1 comeback win against Manchester City last December and the United star is still not ready to return to first-team action.

The former England international is under contract with United until 2028, but Mount has been linked with Serie A side Inter Milan in recent weeks.

It is claimed that Inter Milan are seeking a replacement for former Red Devils star Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the summer and Mount could be a viable target.

However, it was reported that the Italian club were keen to land Mount on a loan deal with an option to buy, with the United player’s wages being a stumbling block.

“Inter are going in a completely different direction” to players with Mount’s profile,” Romano said, as per The Peoples Person.

“[Inter] will invest in young players, not on players with crazy contracts.

“Inter are not going for players like Mason Mount. [There is] nothing really serious there, nothing concrete to report.”

Mount injury update from Amorim

Mason Mount has so far struggled to replicate his scintillating Chelsea form at United since his big-money move from the Blues in 2023.

United agreed an initial deal worth £55m to sign the former Three Lions star and Mount inherited the famous Red Devils No 7 shirt.

However, Mount’s spell at Old Trafford has been curtailed by injuries, despite impressing at times when he has been fully fit.

Amorim has admitted that it still remains unclear when Mount, who has returned to United training, will be back to first-team action on the pitch.

“I still don’t have return dates for Mason Mount or Luke Shaw,” he said, as per Romano on X, formerly Twitter.

“At this point, Mount is closer to returning.”
