Manchester United are set to give Rasmus Hojlund the squad number previously assigned to Fred.

New signing Rasmus Hojlund was not included on the club’s provisional squad number list, via the club’s website.

It was stated that Hojlund will be assigned a number shortly, pending upcoming outgoings.

Earlier this week Fabrizio Romano stated that he expected Hojlund to be assigned Fred’s number 17 shirt.

‘Decision made’ over Rasmus Hojlund

Fred has almost completed his move to Fenerbahce, with Romano giving his famous ‘Here we go’ to signal a fee has been agreed with Manchester United, approximately £12 million.

In wake of this, Romano says a decision has been made for Hojlund to take his shirt.

He reports: “Medical booked for Fred as Fenerbahçe player, deal done and sealed as revealed earlier today :large_yellow_circle::large_blue_circle::handshake::skin-tone-2: #Fenerbahçe…and Rasmus Højlund will be Man Utd new number :one::seven:. Decision made.”

17 was the shirt number Rasmus Hojlund wore at Atalanta last season.

Manchester United’s number 17s

Fred has held the number 17 shirt since he joined the club in 2018, when he took it over from Daley Blind.

Prior to this it had been assigned to Nani, who was given the squad number when he joined the club in 2007.

Liam Miller, Ricardo, Michael Stewart and Raimond van der Gouw all also wore the number 17, along with Andy Cole for two seasons, before he switched to the number nine.
