Marcus Rashford contract extension crucial
Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United contract was due to expire this summer before the club activated a one-year extension which runs until June 2024.
This still leaves United in a precarious position with Rashford, so it is absolutely vital to tie him to a long-term deal.
The timing is right to do so for club and player. Rashford has just had the best season of his professional career, scoring 40 goals and providing a further 10 assists.
He was voted the club’s player of the year by teammates and supporters, an impressive feat considering the strong competition.
Rashford helped United back into the Champions League spots with a third placed finish, and also netted to help the club win the Carabao Cup final, a first trophy since 2017.
United are light of goalscoring options so keeping Rashford is essential. Manager Erik ten Hag will be delighted when this gets done.
There have not been any serious rumours of Rashford leaving, but the longer his deal remains unsigned, the more uncertainty would begin to emerge.
It is now looking like Manchester United could resolve this before the beginning of pre-season, which would be ideal.
