Fabrizio Romano gives update on Man Utd stance on Ruben Amorim, says alternative would ‘say yes’

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester United’s stance on Ruben Amorim’s position.

Ruben Amorim is rapidly losing the faith of Manchester United supporters after an inconsistent start to the season.

United have won only two of six Premier League matches, with the latest defeat a 3-1 loss at Brentford.

Amorim has failed to win back-to-back league matches since his appointment in November 2024, and the situation is becoming increasingly unsustainable.

Manchester United stance on Ruben Amorim

Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United are staying steady on Ruben Amorim’s position and are currently refusing to panic. But he insists the head coach is in jeopardy.

Romano told the Here We Go podcast that Amorim’s future is uncertain – but no steps have been taken with regard to possible replacements.

He explained: “From what I’m told at the moment. The position of Ruben Amorim is not safe. That doesn’t mean Manchester United have started the process to appoint a new manager, but Ruben Amorim is not safe in the sense that United hope to see different results in the upcoming weeks.

“Manchester United want to see a reaction in terms of quality, results, changing this situation other than the Chelsea game which was affected by the red card.

“In general Manchester United want to see a different kind of approach. So Amorim is still Manchester United manager, they’re not talking to any other coach, they’re showing trust in the manager.

“But he’s not safe in that if United keep losing games in the next weeks this could be a different situation.”

Romano doubles down on Xavi

Fabrizio Romano recently stated that former Barcelona boss Xavi would take the United job if he was offered, and he has doubled down on these claims.

He said: “Xavi is ready to try something different, now the opportunity to go to the Premier League would really tempt Xavi.

“From what I’m hearing at the moment, there are no contacts going on with Manchester United, Xavi didn’t receive any approach from Manchester United as of today, but what I can tell you is that if Manchester United called, Xavi would say yes immediately.

“Xavi would be really open to the job even without European football and a new opportunity in the Premier League.”

Xavi managed Barcelona between 2021 and 2024 and has been out of work since leaving the Spanish giants, awaiting the right offer.

He won the La Liga title in the 2022/23 season, while Manchester United fans are acutely aware of his talent on the pitch as a player, starring in Barcelona’s Champions League final victories in 2009 and 2011.
