Ex-Manchester United hero approached for major manager job, Rene Hake expected to become his assistant

Erik ten Hag is still out of a job after leaving Manchester United but one potential job opening may instead go to a former Old Trafford hero.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is finding life at Old Trafford a little tricky.

Results have been hard to come by with Amorim suffering eight defeats in his first 14 Premier League games.

United sacked Erik ten Hag in October but it’s clear the Amorim faces a big job if he is to turn the club around on the pitch.

Ten Hag is yet to return to management since leaving United with the Dutchman biding his time before a comeback.

Ten Hag has been linked with Feyenoord and whilst that would be a controversial move given his Ajax ties, the job may go to another very familiar face at Old Trafford.

Ex-Manchester United hero in pole position for Feyenoord job

After being approached for the job, Ten Hag left the door open for a move to Rotterdam.

Ten Hag wants to wait until nearer the summer to take a new job though and that means Feyenoord are moving on.

1908 now claim that Robin van Persie has been approached to become the new Feyenoord boss in a quite stunning move.

Van Persie hails from Rotterdam, came up through the Feyenoord ranks and spent two spells with the club as a player.

After joining Feyenoord as a coach at the end of his playing career, Van Persie took his first step into management with Heerenveen last summer.

Van Persie suffered a 9-1 defeat earlier this season but could be catapulted into the Feyenoord hot seat with Heerenveen sitting ninth in the Eredivisie table.

This is a major job, not just because of Van Persie’s personal ties to Feyenoord, but also because they are into the round of 16 in the Champions League.

The step up from Heerenveen is huge and many in Rotterdam will question whether the former United striker is really ready for the job this early into his managerial career.

Rene Hake expected to join Robin van Persie

Van Persie would surely need an experienced coach alongside him at Feyenoord and another former United man could join him.

1908’s report claims that Feyenoord have also approached Rene Hake to work alongside Van Persie.

Hake recently attended Feyenoord’s Champions League win over Bayern Munich and would be expected to take the job alongside Van Persie.

Hake left United after Amorim’s arrival having taken charge alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy on an interim basis.

West Bromwich Albion targeted Hake as their new manager but they ended up appointing Tony Mowbray instead.

Now seemingly ready to be an assistant once again, we could see former United duo Hake and Van Persie join forces at Feyenoord.
