Demetri Mitchell is one of the many former Manchester United academy talents who can proudly say he represented the first team.

Demetri Mitchell became the 223rd Manchester United academy graduate to play for the club in 2017, a number now up to 251.

Mitchell’s debut under Jose Mourinho would prove to be his one and only Manchester United appearance, after a series of loans and injuries led to his release.

The latest injury has just taken a year off Mitchell’s career, yet he is smiling again after a perfect comeback.

Demetri Mitchell injury

Former England under-20 international Demetri Mitchell is at his third club since his exit from Manchester United in 2020.

After joining Scottish side Hibernian, Mitchell signed for Blackpool, before joining Exeter City in 2023.

Mitchell quickly became a regular for the Grecians, before suffering a torn ACL last November in a Carabao Cup tie against Middlesbrough.

The previous round he had helped them pull off a shock win over then Premier League side Luton Town.

After a long spell on the sidelines, Mitchell has completed his comeback in spectacular fashion.

Mitchell scores winner

Demetri Mitchell made his comeback from injury on October 29 in a Football League Trophy clash away at Bristol Rovers.

Mitchell, wearing the number seven shirt, came off the bench and ended up scoring the winning goal for his team in the 88th minute.

Writing on Instagram, the former Manchester United defender posted: “364 days and counting, It’s been a long road but we here. Appreciate you all for sticking in there with me buzzing to be back with a win and a goal.”

He received a response from former Manchester United centre-back Teden Mengi, who posted: “I love to see this bro.”

Mitchell, 27, will be looking to work his way back into the side as a regular over the coming weeks.

Exeter showed faith in him when they offered him a new contract in the summer, despite his injury.

Speaking to the BBC, he has vowed to kick on: “I’ve lost out on a few games at the start of the season, but I’m going to make up for a bit of lost time now.”

We wish him well as he continues to step up his comeback.
