One of Manchester United’s deadline day departures went straight into action for his new club.

Manchester United were busy on deadline day, and it was not just clinching the signing of Senne Lammens.

United agreed exits for multiple players, and while some of these were big money flops like Jadon Sancho, others were young prospects like Harry Amass on loan.

Another who left the club was young prospect Ethan Ennis, who agreed a loan move to Fleetwood Town before the deadline.

Ethan Ennis scores on near-perfect debut

Ethan Ennis went straight into action for Fleetwood Town 24 hours after sealing his loan move.

Ennis played in the EFL Trophy as Fleetwood took on Accrington Stanley, drawing 2-2 and winning on penalties.

The Manchester United loanee was named in the starting line-up and played all 90 minutes, marking his debut with a goal.

Ennis scored the only goal in the second half to tie the game at 2-2, sweeping home a rebound after the goalkeeper had parried a teammate’s shot.

He showed smart positioning to anticipate the loose ball, demonstrating tenacity to get there ahead of two onrushing defenders.

It was not a surprise to see Ennis take his chance on his Fleetwood debut, he was bright for Manchester United’s under-21s, scoring two goals in two games before his loan.

Ennis had one moment of disappointment when his penalty was saved in the shootout, but it did not matter, with Fleetwood going on to win 5-4 on spot-kicks after sudden death.

Two former Manchester United players among opponents

There were three former Manchester United players on the Accrington Stanley team going up against Ethan Ennis.

One was left-back Logan Pye, who joined Accrington on loan from Burnley earlier this summer. He signed with United’s academy in 2020 before leaving in 2023.

Pye crossed over with Ennis at United’s academy and had a nice moment in the match too, providing an assist for Accrington’s third minute opener.

Another of their starters was a comparable veteran, Donald Love, now 30. He made his debut for United way back under Louis van Gaal.

Ennis was also joined by former United talent Mark Helm, who came off the bench in the second half and scored in the shootout for Fleetwood.
