Erik ten Hag speaks for the first time about Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in Man United

Erik ten Hag has spoken publicly about Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos acquiring 25 per cent of Manchester United.

Confirmation of the landmark moment for Manchester United arrived on Christmas Eve with Sir Jim Ratcliffe already speaking publicly about his excitement about being involved at Old Trafford.

The Glazer family have been a very sticky thorn in the side of any progress ever being made at Old Trafford but it seems the American group are now keen on putting United in the past as this looks to be the first step of a full takeover of the club.

Erik ten Hag’s recent future has been choppy, to say the least with the weekend defeat to West Ham United at the London Stadium piling more pressure on the Dutchman. An important win against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, however, has eased the pressure.

Ten Hag on Ineos investment

Well, the Dutch manager was asked after United’s vital 3-2 win over the Midlands side, thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund, about the minority investment.

“I don’t think it has had an impact on the players,” Ten Hag told the United website. “And so for me, I kept informed and during the whole process, first from Richard Arnold, later on from Patrick Stewart.

“So I knew what was going on. Yeah, we’re looking forward. I think it’s positive for the club that they are in, they’re stepping in. They have a lot of experience in sport on the highest level: F1, [the] cycling team, other football clubs.

“So it can only help and support us to catch our targets. So we are looking forward. They want to work with us, and we want to work with them.”

There were rumours that Graham Potter was the desired coach of the incoming minority owners but this certainly seems unlikely based on the Dutchman’s response.

Nevertheless, football is a results-based business and if the Red Devils continue to be as inconsistent as they have been in the Premier League this season, 8 defeats in the league already, then a decision may have to be made.

For now, however, the Dutchman remains and the former Ajax boss will be preparing his team for a big clash against Nottingham Forest. His future seems secure, for now.
