Erik ten Hag shakes hands with Manchester United star and doesn't want to let go

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been at Carrington this week putting the players through their paces on the first week of pre-season.

The Dutchman has been getting to know United’s players, with several first team and youth players returning as early as June 27.

Ten Hag has been joined by assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren, as they look to improve the mindset of the Red Devils players as well as teaching them a new way of playing.

Manchester United have been sharing short video clips of Ten Hag’s training sessions during his first week at Carrington.

Ten Hag shakes hands with Victor Lindelof and doesn’t want to let go

Ten Hag was seen shaking hands with Swedish defender Victor Lindelof, and seems to have formed a bond with the centre-back already.

The handshake was an extra long one, with Ten Hag seemingly impressed by what he had seen from his new player.

Ten Hag is renowned for being an excellent man-manager, and Lindelof could become a player who really thrives under him, even in the face of high competition at centre-back.

Donny van de Beek looks exhausted after training session

Donny van de Beek is the one Manchester United player with experience training under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. That doesn’t make it any easier.

Van de Beek looked exhausted as he came off the training pitch and was asked to say a few words for the camera. He could just about manage a smile and a nod.

Pre-season is always intense, and Ten Hag’s sessions are no different. Van de Beek is clearly putting the hard graft in, and that’s encouraging to see.

Ten Hag exudes authority as he gives instructions

This clip is best listened to with the sound on, with Ten Hag’s voice clearly and authoritatively giving instructions to te players on how he wants them to pass and move.

He is not messing about, and wants his players to learn. That’s great to see; these players will learn a lot mentally as well as physically from working under him.

The silence on the training ground as Ten Hag gives his instructions shows a clear respect towards him from the players.

David de Gea is looking good

David de Gea is hoping for an improved defence in front of him this season to make being Manchester United’s goalkeeper a little easier than last season.

Nonetheless, he is determined to be unbeatable in goal, and this short goalkeeping drill shows he is in great shape as he leaps to make a save.

De Gea was not happy with last season, rightly so, and this is a new start. He looks sprightly and ready to put 2021/22 behind him.
