Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been quizzed about the impressive form of Amad on loan at Sunderland.

Amad scored again at the weekend, netting his sixth goal of the season for the Championship side.

With Manchester United’s first team in need of goals, there is a possibility United could choose to recall Amad.

Erik ten Hag was asked about this, along with his general view of the youngster, and he spoke glowingly about him.

Ten Hag values Amad highly

Speaking to the club website, Ten Hag explained why he chose to send Amad on loan in the first place.

He explained: “In that moment, I didn’t see him as a starting XI or a player who already had an impact.

“But I see and I value his potential and his capabilities.

“I saw that he needs experience in men’s football, senior football. I think in many aspects of football, to get stronger physically, mentally, also skills-wise to improve that, to develop that, so that he can have value for us.”

Would Ten Hag recall Amad

Ten Hag clearly regards the 20-year-old as a player with ability to play for Manchester United’s first team in the future, but he is wary of making the wrong decision right now.

Bringing Amad back to sit on United’s bench could be an error, and he has admitted his concerns at doing so.

The Dutchman explained: “We consider everything. As long as it’s strengthening the squad. But at the same time, I have a little bit of a reservation for that because I don’t want to stop the process.

“He’s [making] really good progress there, so I’m happy with that.

“But I know also, they need experiences, young players. When we decide [for him] to come back, he has to be a player who can be starting XI, compete for starting XI [at a] minimum, for a lot of games to come in and have an impact.”

Amad scored one goal and provided one assist for United in pre-season, but it was always likely he would head out on loan.

The talent has always been there with Amad, he has scored for United’s first team already in the Europa League, but he needed to get regular football under his belt.

He is doing so at Sunderland and it could be a smarter move long-term to let him continue to develop, and come back even stronger next summer.
