Erik ten Hag provides injury latest on four injured players, whether Mason Mount will play v Chelsea

Erik ten Hag has provided an injury update on four key Manchester United players who have been unavailable for the Red Devils.

Manchester United have had a torrid time of late with injuries derailing what was promised to be a season of progression at Old Trafford.

However, so far the season has been one of regression with the Red Devils struggling to put a consistent run of form together with players dropping like flies every other week.

Unlike last season, Erik ten Hag has been unable to field a consistent starting 11 throughout the term with his defence, in particular, chopping and changing nearly every week due to injuries.

Ten Hag’s injury update

Jonny Evans, Mason Mount, Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen are just some of the first team players who are out injured.

Mount has struggled massively since his move from Chelsea last summer and, at times, Danish midfielder Eriksen has been played ahead of him.

Former United defender Evans, who rejoined the club in the summer as a backup option, was a first-choice defender for the Red Devils alongside Harry Maguire.

Amad has yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils this season since his loan at Sunderland ended last summer.

Ten Hag, speaking to the United website, has provided a short update on these players’ availability ahead of tonight’s game.

“There are some positives but [they are] not back already in the squad,” the Dutchman said when asked about the quartets availability.

When pushed further and asked if the squad will be near enough the same as the Newcastle clash, the former Ajax boss replied: “More or less, yes.”

Injury struggles

Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro, two of Ten Hag’s most important players last season, remain out of the picture and may be unavailable until the new year.

Out of the four the Dutchman was asked about, perhaps only Evans would have been guaranteed a starting spot which is a sad indictment of Mount’s current position at Old Trafford.

Despite this, Ten Hag will be hoping that the bulk of his squad can return sooner rather than later to try and kickstart United’s stuttering campaign.
