A report has emerged detailing just how unlucky Manchester United have been with injuries this season.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been immensely unlucky with injuries with the number of absentees in the squad reaching double figures at times throughout this season.
Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro, two of United’s most important players last season, are both out of action for the final two months of 2023.
Luke Shaw is only just returning from a muscular injury that has kept him out since August and Aaron Wan-Bissaka had two months on the sidelines due to another muscle strain.

United’s injury issues
A report has emerged from Howden’s 2022/2023 Men’s European Football Injury Index which has stated that the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar has caused an increase in injuries, unsurprisingly.
Throughout the campaign, United had the most injuries at 69, which was the highest in Europe.
United were joined in suffering 69 injuries across the season by Nottingham Forest. Fulham (27) and Brentford (28) recorded the fewest injury concerns in the Premier League.
Additional data has highlighted that hamstring injuries are the most frequent injury complaint being encountered in the Premier League so far this season; a total of 53 have been recorded. United have had a myriad of muscular issues since the beginning of the new season. Rasmus Hojlund‘s latest injury is a hamstring issue.
Erik ten Hag has come under criticism due to the sheer amount of muscular issues but the reality is that the Red Devils have just played a lot of football over the past year or so.
United had lots of fixtures last season, reaching two domestic cup finals and the Europa League quarter-finals on top of the league campaign. Many players featured at the World Cup, with two of United’s centre-backs reaching the final.
United’s current injury problems
Ten Hag has a host of key men out but there does seem to be some good news with Shaw and Tyrell Malacia potentially on the verge of returning to the side.
United’s current injury absentees:
- Casemiro
- Luke Shaw
- Tyrell Malacia
- Lisandro Martinez
- Rasmus Hojlund
- Andre Onana
- Amad Diallo
- Christian Eriksen
The Red Devils return to action this weekend and Erik ten Hag will hope that a host of their first team stars will be back fit and firing.
