Erik ten Hag makes his stance on Antony absolutely clear ahead of Galatasaray game

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed he is considering selecting Antony against Galatasaray.

Antony trained for the first time in a month last week, and then rejoined his teammates in the session at Carrington on Sunday.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Erik ten Hag says Antony is part of his planning for the game.

Ten Hag said, via BBC Sport: “Antony in consideration, yesterday first day in team training.”

He added, via MUTV, making reference to Lisandro Martinez’s latest injury setback: “Licha will have to undergo surgery. Team news is probably Antony dos Santos can return.”

Antony has missed a month

Antony has been out of action for the past month amid allegations made against him. No charges have been brought.

Manchester United released a statement last week confirming he would rejoin the squad.

Ten Hag was quizzed further at the press conference about the morality of bringing Antony back.

He responded: “He co-operated fully. He was not charged.”

Antony could go straight into line-up

There is a chance Antony could go straight back into the starting line-up to face Galatasaray.

Facundo Pellistri has featured recently, however, has not quite done enough to warrant a guaranteed start at the position. Jadon Sancho is not being considered for selection right now.

Ten Hag has thrown Antony straight in before, starting the Brazilian on his debut against Arsenal days after signing, in which he scored.

The manager will be hoping for a similar impact if Antony makes his return to the team, to play his first ever Champions League game for Manchester United at Old Trafford.
