Erik ten Hag has come out fighting in support of Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes scored Manchester United’s winning goal against Aston Villa, following on from an assist against Tottenham days earlier.
Just a week ago Fernandes had left the pitch at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final with an ice pack on his ankle and was subsequently pictured in a protective boot.
Fernandes’ determination has seen him follow this up by making an impact in two full 90 minute showings in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag backs Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes was an easy target for pundits after Manchester United’s loss against Liverpool at the start of March.
Chris Sutton was one who told BBC Sport: “There are people that are far better qualified to be captain. Fernandes is not their best leader. There are more suitable candidates than him.”
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag took issue with this and brought it back up after Fernandes’ vital performance in Manchester United’s win over Aston Villa.
Ten Hag praised Fernandes’ qualities and said United need more players like him.
He told club media: “He [Bruno] is so tough. A couple of weeks ago, there was questioning about his captaincy, it’s crazy, because he is such a big leader by example.
“He gives so much energy to the team, besides his smartness, his determination, his passion and his resilience. So, yeah, I think this team are so happy.
“We need such players if you want to win games and if you want to win trophies.”
Ten Hag went on to praise Fernandes’ versatility, having played him in a variety of positions lately, in attacking midfield, deeper, and even at right wing.
He said: “He has so many skills and it’s a pleasure to work with players like him.”
