Manchester United once again needed the impact of substitutes to get past a determinedly resolute Omonia side.
This time it was Scott McTominay who scored the winning goal in injury time after excellent work from fellow substitute Jadon Sancho.
It was McTominay’s third effort at goal and the 34th from Manchester United, with goalkeeper Francis Uzoho in inspired form.

Erik ten Hag hails McTominay
Erik ten Hag spoke to MUTV after the 1-0 win and praised McTominay for coming through, commending his attitude in light of recently losing his starting spot to Casemiro.
Ten Hag said: “I’m really happy for Scott. He played really well. Now, Casemiro came in, so it reduces his play time, but he came in and done fantastic.”
Manchester United fans vote McTominay MOTM
A fan poll on Manchester United’s website saw Scott McTominay named as man of the match, despite only coming on in the 81st minute.
This reflected the joy McTominay’s winner provided, along with a frustration at the performances of the other players, who had done well without getting on the scoresheet.
McTominay earned 40 per cent of the fan vote, with Marcus Rashford and Casemiro both on 17 per cent. All other players polled fewer than 10 per cent.
This weekend McTominay won’t be available against Newcastle as he is suspended for the fixture.
