Erik ten Hag gives verdict on who is to blame following Man United’s 3-3 draw against Galatasaray

Erik ten Hag has insisted that he is to blame for Manchester United’s 3-3 draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Manchester United are on the verge of elimination from the Champions League but things looked to be going swimmingly in the first half as an Alejandro Garnacho goal and a Bruno Fernandes rocket fired the Red Devils into a two-goal lead.

However, in typical United fashion, the Red Devils threw away their advantage and now face the prospect of needing to beat Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich at Old Trafford and hoping that FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw.

Andre Onana made a calamitous error for Galatasaray’s second goal and Erik ten Hag was asked who was to blame for the encounter.

Ten Hag on who’s to blame

Speaking to TNT Sports after the frantic and frenetic draw in Turkey, Ten Hag gave his verdict on who was to blame for the draw and he was honest in his answer.

“It’s always me. I am responsible for this,” a frank Ten Hag said. “We know we are in a project. We are making improvements so that’s very hopeful.

“We are going in the right direction so I know we will be successful in the long term but if you want to stay in the Champions League you need to win these games.”

The Dutchman’s man-management has been criticised this season but to put the blame on himself and absolve the team of any criticism is a credit to the 53-year-old.

United’s confidence

It’s fair to say confidence within the United team, particularly Onana’s, may well be on the floor following such a disastrous way to lose a two-goal lead in a must-win game.

However, there were many positives to take from the game for Ten Hag and the players. To play in a hostile atmosphere, on a waterlogged pitch, and to have a two-goal lead, twice, is a credit to the 11 men on the pitch.

Barring Onana’s mistake for the second goal, the United team were all solid in their performances in Turkey and have to be confident that if they play like that, they can beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.

The atmosphere will be electric for that encounter and the Red Devils have to win at all cost.
