Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has issued an update on Donny van de Beek and says he will be out for the season.

Van de Beek limped off in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth but the club took their time before saying anything about a prognosis.

As per Via Play, speaking as United prepare to face Manchester City tomorrow, Ten Hag has said we will not see the midfielder again this term.

The injury did not look good and now it has been confirmed that Van de Beek is set to be on the sidelines until at least next pre-season.

Ten Hag says van de Beek will be out for the season

The injury compounds what has been a miserable spell at United for van de Beek, where even the arrival of his former Ajax manager has not sparked a change in fortune.

Ten Hag has tried to give him some opportunities, even when it means shunting Bruno Fernandes out onto the right, but van de Beek did not really take any of them.

Injuries also niggled at him during the World Cup break and he was unable to get himself in contention while many teammates were away in Qatar.

Ten Hag has now finally shed some light on the problem and the big setback for a player who now faces a lengthy fitness battle.

As per the Athletic, Ten Hag said: “Yes, it is his knee. On the long term it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season. The rest of the season he is out

“Our thoughts are with him, it is terrible when you are in a season and you get a bad tackle, bad injury, it is always really disappointing and our thoughts, feelings are with the player.

“Our group did that really well and we are now happy his knee, in the long term, is good. In the same moments, there are mixed feelings and disappointment that he is out of this season.

“The players are feeling we are building something good and we want to be part of it and everyone wants to be part of it. That injury he is out so there are two sides of it but the good sides are the long term he is out.”
