Erik ten Hag has told reporters he is adamant Christian Eriksen will return to action for Manchester United this season.

Eriksen suffered an injury in Manchester United’s FA Cup fourth round win over Reading when he was scythed down by Andy Carroll.

The initial prognosis was that Eriksen would be back in either April or May, and the first of those months is already approaching.

Eriksen was pictured at Wembley as Manchester United celebrated the Carabao Cup final win, with the midfielder wearing a walking boot.

Christian Eriksen update

Speaking at his press conference reported by ESPN, Ten Hag was optimistic over the Danish midfielder.

He said: “I think he will play [this season], yeah, definitely,.

“But I can’t tell now an expectation [of when]. I think his progress in the rehab is OK, is going according to plan, so we will definitely see him but not before the international break.”

The international break falls after Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Fulham on March 19. It was never expected he could return in time for this.

The games resume on April 2, and Eriksen will likely not be involved on international duty for Denmark either, which will be a positive.

He will gradually be reintroduced into the first team set up and potentially return at a crucial stage of the season, providing fresh legs when United will need them.

Anthony Martial update

Ten Hag is cautiously optimistic over Anthony Martial, who was pictured back in training earlier this week.

He said: “I think all the time we had a good plan and it worked until now not always good.

“He is on his way back, he’s back in training but we will be cautious.”

At a guess, we don’t see Martial back until the Fulham game at the earliest, but anything is possible. He could be on the bench at the weekend, or a non-factor until after the international break.
