Eric Bailly sends apology to opponent after tackle sent him to intensive care

On loan Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has sent an apology to his opponent after a dangerous tackle caused an injury.

Bailly was red carded for Marseille in their 2-0 cup win against lower league Hyeres. The Ivory Coast international was sent off after just 15 minutes.

The defender’s high tackle directly caught his opponent Moussa N’Diaye, who was unable to continue.

Goal reported Bailly’s ‘reckless’ challenge saw N’Diaye admitted to hospital and intensive care as a precautionary measure.

Bailly apologises

Eric Bailly issued an apology via Instagram to N’Diaye, describing the move as ‘unlucky’.

He wrote: “Good work from the whole team to qualify for the next round. I want to apologize to @Almike__ and everyone else for my unlucky move and my expulsion.”

Bailly is set to be suspended and it could be a hefty punishment. RMC Sport report the defender could be handed a six-game ban by the French authorities.

This is just another blow for Bailly, whose spell at Marseille has predictably been negatively impacted by injury problems.

He has made only three Ligue 1 starts, one of which saw him substituted off with injury in the first half.

This latest incident will do little to endear him to his loan side. Bailly is contract to Manchester United until 2024.
