Manchester United loanee Eric Bailly hit a new low in Marseille’s crucial Champions League clash with Tottenham.
Bailly lasted just 10 minutes before being substituted off with injury with the game at 0-0.
This was Bailly’s first match back since Marseille’s October 16 defeat to PSG. He was substituted off injured in this game after 44 minutes.
The Ivory Coast international’s situation has become farcical at this point. He has now been substituted off injured in three matches already, first against Eintracht Frankfurt after 65 minutes earlier in the Champions League campaign.
Eric Bailly hits new low
Eric Bailly does not lack talent. When he has played and completed 90 minutes, he has frequently been one of the best defenders on the pitch.
The trouble has quite simply been a struggle to actually stay or, or even get onto the pitch the first place.
He has only started two Ligue 1 games for PSG this season so far, one of which was the match against PSG in which he did not even complete the first half.
This latest injury could be his last involvement for the French side before they break for the World Cup.
Manchester United likely would have been content to sell him in the summer if a decent permanent offer had come in.
His injury record scared sides off, and his loan spell at Marseille is not exactly putting him in the shop window for the right reasons.
United made the bizarre decision to extend Bailly’s deal in 2021, so his current contract runs to 2024.
At the start of his loan spell he told The Times he was unhappy at United because he felt other players received preferential treatment.
But he is hardly doing his own cause any good at Marseille, instead showing why various Red Devils’ managers have been reluctant to trust him.
