Eight Man Utd stars who missed out on international call-ups and why

The third international break of the season is underway, and Manchester United have several players who missed out on call-ups to their respective national teams.

Manchester United turned a corner after the October international break, boasting the second-longest unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Last time out, United drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur, and they’ll be aiming to get back to winning ways when Everton visit Old Trafford.

United still have an array of internationals, with 20 players called up by the senior international teams.

However, there was disappointment for eight other United players, with a variety of reasons as to why they were overlooked.

Here is why each player missed out…

England – Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount

Thomas Tuchel is making a habit of overlooking United players, with Marcus Rashford yet again being the only exception following his loan move to Barcelona.

The German coach had thus far preferred younger options to Harry Maguire at centre-back, but his decision was made easier this month with the 33-year-old recently returning from a minor injury.

Ruben Amorim wants Luke Shaw back in the England team, but the defender was overlooked despite an impressive run of performances in United’s back-three. Another player who may count himself unlucky is Mason Mount.

Unsurprisingly, Kobbie Mainoo missed out due to a lack of game time.

Netherlands – Joshua Zirkzee

It has been a difficult season for Joshua Zirkzee thus far.

The 24-year-old has played just 90 minutes across all competitions, and he is not getting back into Ronald Koeman’s squad unless that changes.

Slovenia – Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko was named in the Slovenia national team, but he missed out after sustaining a knee injury during United’s trip to London at the weekend.

It remains to be seen if Sesko will be available to face Everton after the international break.

France – Leny Yoro

Although Leny Yoro earned another call-up to the France U21 squad, the United defender has been overlooked by Didier Deschamps again.

Yoro will be knocking on the door of the France senior team if he continues to impress at United.

Denmark U21 – Chido Obi

United academy star Chido Obi misses out on a place in the Denmark U21 squad yet again.

Obi will be frustrated by this, but the only way to get back into the squad is by performing at a high standard for United’s youth teams.
