Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag appears to have kept hold of his job but the speculation over his future at Old Trafford continues.

We are now midway through the international break and there has been no official update about Erik ten Hag’s future.

Manchester United came into the break after a testing week for Ten Hag.

Defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was a disaster and United then played out two draws with Porto and Aston Villa.

Both of those performances had their issues; United went 2-0 up at Porto but threw it away and needed a late equaliser to salvage a point.

United were then pretty toothless in a 0-0 draw at Villa, with Ten Hag seemingly unable to find a balance in his side.

Ineos discussed Ten Hag’s future last week but no news appears to be good news for Ten Hag.

The Dutchman does appear to be in the last chance saloon though and more poor performances may prompt a chance in the dugout.

Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank and Thomas Tuchel have all been mentioned but a surprise name has now been linked.

The Sun report that United are interested in former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic.

It’s claimed that Terzic ‘has many admirers’ inside Old Trafford and is in the frame should Ten Hag lose his job any time soon.

Terzic left Borussia Dortmund last summer and his availability may well appeal to United rather than negotiating for somebody like Frank, who is in a Premier League job right now.

Who is Edin Terzic?

Terzic hails from Menden in Germany and his playing career was mostly spent in the lower leagues in Germany.

A former striker, Terzic turned out for FC Iserlohn 46/49, Westfalia Herne, Wattenscheid 09, BV Cloppenburg and Borussia Droschede.

We wouldn’t blame any United fan for having never heard of any of those clubs, but Terzic’s coaching career has certainly eclipsed his playing days.

Terzic worked as a scout at Borussia Dortmund before becoming Slaven Bilic’s assistant manager at Besiktas and West Ham United.

Terzic had previously helped Bilic with analysis in the Croatian national team setup and the pair enjoyed spells together in Turkiye and England.

Lucien Favre brought Terzic back to Dortmund as his assistant but the 41-year-old ended up becoming interim boss after Favre’s exit.

Marco Rose’s appointment meant Terzic moved upstairs into a technical director role, but he was back in charge just a year later.

Terzic came so close to winning the Bundesliga title in 2023 but failed on the final day before taking Dortmund to the Champions League final last season.

Terzic signed Jadon Sancho from United in January and came so close to major glory but Real Madrid ended up breaking his heart at Wembley.

Despite winning around 67% of his games at Dortmund, he left the club at the end of last season and remains out of work.

Terzic completed his Pro Licence alongside United legends Nicky Butt and Nemanja Vidic in 2018 and has certainly shown promise as a manager.

Whether that is suitable for taking on the United job is another matter, but Terzic is a name to keep close tabs on.
