Bruno Fernandes‘ passion was on display for everybody to see as he led Manchester United to victory over rivals City.

This was his first home win over City since the pre-lockdown victory in his debut season for the club in 2020, and he worked hard for this result.

It was his smartly taken equaliser which tipped the balance of the game, along with his insistent argument to the officials that the goal was right to stand.

Marcus Rashford netted a winner minutes later, sealing a 2-1 win, causing delirium at Old Trafford, and for the fans watching around the world.

Fernandes clarifies post-game comments

Bruno Fernandes was named BT Sport’s man of the match, and was accosted for an on-pitch interview at the final whistle.

He spoke about the team’s togetherness, and one comment about the side being too individualistic in the past, he felt the need to clarify after the game.

Fernandes said in his interview to BT: “We look like a team now. Some months ago you could see sometimes a team that was looking a bit for ourselves – but now you see a proper team that works hard for each other.”

Some outlets took this as a dig at former star Cristiano Ronaldo. Foreign outlet El Futbolero ran a headline reading, ‘Bruno Fernandes’ unexpected betrayal of Cristiano’, suggesting his comments were an ‘indirect’ message for his Portuguese colleague.

Fernandes issued a clarification via his Instagram story reel, stating that the media was looking for negativity as the stories at Manchester United are all positive right now.

He added: “Don’t use my name to attack Cristiano! Cristiano was part of our team for half the season, as I said in many interviews, everyone since Liverpool is being amazing and acting like a proper team and you can see the results on that! We carry on.”

Fernandes is referring to Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool back in August which got the season up and running. The Red Devils currently hold a 10 point advantage over Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Ronaldo proved a poor fit for Erik ten Hag’s side, despite the manager’s efforts, and the former Ballon d’Or winner was released by mutual consent, since signing for Al Nassr.

United have won every single game since his departure, with the players at the club fully buying in to Ten Hag’s methods.
