Donny van de Beek returns to Manchester United training

Donny van de Beek returned to Manchester United training having missed the last three matches through injury.

The 25-year-old was pictured taking part in Friday’s training session at Carrington having missed the 2-0 Europa League win against Sheriff Tiraspol the day prior.

While the players heavily involved in the comfortable win in Moldova carried out a recovery session, Van de Beek and fellow injury returnee Facundo Pellistri joined in with the other first team players who didn’t heavily feature in Eastern Europe.

Despite not featuring since suffering an injury against Atletico Madrid in July, Pellistri has been called up to the Uruguay squad for this month’s international friendlies.

However, unlike the former Penarol man, Van de Beek hasn’t received a call-up for Netherlands by former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.

As it stands, it’s looking highly unlikely that the 19-time Netherlands international is going to be able to get the minutes under Erik ten Hag with the Red Devils, to earn a recall under Van Gaal.

There is a growing possibility that United’s number 34 is going to miss out on being included in Netherlands’ World Cup squad.

The former Ajax man’s last appearance for the Oranje came 18 months when he scored against Gibraltar after coming off the bench.

Despite his former Ajax boss taking the reins at Old Trafford, Van de Beek’s fortunes haven’t transformed and he remains on the periphery.

Having come off the bench in the opening three Premier League games of the season, the Dutchman hasn’t featured since a four-minute cameo in the 2-1 win against Liverpool last month.

Van de Beek’s last start for Manchester United in the Premier League came on the last day of the 2020-21 season at Wolves.

However, with several of United’s first team players being called-up for international duty this month, Van de Beek could benefit from spending time at Carrington with Ten Hag and the United coaching staff.
