Manchester United have confirmed that Di’Shon Bernard has signed a new ‘long-term’ contract.

Bernard was pictured signing his new deal, and said on Instagram he was ‘extremely happy’ to commit to the club.

The news came out on the same day that the defender’s loan move to Hull City was confirmed.

He spoke to his new club’s website about the move into the Championship, having spent last season in League 2 on loan with Salford City.

“It’s going to be a big step up for me. Being in League Two with Salford last season was a good experience for me playing against some big strikers and grown men.

“The Championship will test me both in that way and in terms of technical ability as well. I’m sure it will be good for me and hopefully I can do well.

“I’m really excited to be joining Hull City and hopefully it can be a very exciting season for us. I’ve joined a big club in the Premier League in recent years and hopefully I can try and help to push us towards that level.”

“I can use somebody like Harry Maguire as an inspiration. He is somebody who has shown that you aren’t always going to go from the academy straight into the first team.

“Sometimes you’ll go out on loan, play games at different levels and develop that way.”

Mason Greenwood led the academy graduates congratulating Bernard on his new deal.

Anthony Elanga and Nathan Bishop were also among those who sent messages of goodwill.

Bernard is right, the Championship is a big step up and it will test him in different ways.

But Maguire is a good role model in terms of inspiration. His route to the top wasn’t direct but he is now a huge player for club and country.
