Dion Dublin warns Man Utd this season will be a ‘failure’ without key objective

Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin has set a challenge for Manchester United to avoid ‘failure’ this season.

The 2025/26 season started slowly for Manchester United, but the Red Devils have turned a corner under Ruben Amorim with a four-match unbeaten run.

Disappointing results at the beginning of the season led to extra scrutiny on Amorim, but that pressure eased after winning every match in October.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe backed Amorim publicly when the pressure was at its worst, and the United head coach has just been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month.

Amorim marked his first anniversary at Old Trafford with a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. The result marked the end of a three-match win streak.

United are currently eighth in the Premier League table, and they’ll be aiming to get back into Europe with a strong finish this season.

Dion Dublin makes Man Utd demand to avoid ‘failure’

United missed out on European football after finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final last season.

Amorim accepts that United need to return to Europe, but the only way to achieve that is by winning football matches consistently. The fans will be hoping to see the first team get back to winning ways when they travel to Tottenham on Saturday.

Former United striker Dion Dublin believes that it would be a ‘failure’ if the Red Devils missed out on European football for a second consecutive season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Dublin said: “I don’t know else you can say about Manchester United. If they don’t get European football, it’s a failure, really. It’s Manchester United. It’s just the way it is.

“And I understand that they haven’t been where they need to be. I’m pretty sure the players would stand here and say ‘it would be great to get European football but we’re not quite there.’ I think they are and I think they’re on the way back.

“They’ve made some good signings. Manchester United have to be in Europe. It’s Man United.”

Dion Dublin’s record at Man Utd

Dublin had a short but memorable time at United, even though it was hampered by a major injury.

The former Aston Villa striker made 17 appearances for United, scoring three goals and was part of the 1992/93 Premier League-winning side. He missed most of his first season after suffering a broken leg and ligament damage in September 1992 against Crystal Palace.

United signed Eric Cantona from Leeds in November 1992, before the Frenchman became the main man up front.

As a result, Dublin struggled to break into the team after returning from injury.
