Diogo Dalot shares the ‘funny’ mistake Ruben Amorim accidentally made early on at Man Utd

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has now been in charge for nearly five months having replaced Erik ten Hag in November.

Erik ten Hag’s sacking perhaps wasn’t a surprise, but Manchester United wasted no time in replacing him.

United appointed Ruben Amorim pretty quickly but had to wait until mid-November to see him take charge for the first time.

Five months on, the jury is still out on Amorim, and some fans remain unconvinced, even if there is an acceptance that he needs time and funds to turn this team around.

United lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, failing to recapture the momentum we saw before the international break.

Amorim could still bring Europa League success to Old Trafford, but many can’t wait for the end of the season to arrive.

Diogo Dalot on Ruben Amorim’s accidental mistake in training

Amorim certainly deserves time and transfer windows to fix United’s problems, and there have been some encouraging signs in recent displays.

Diogo Dalot has now opened up on life under Amorim at United whilst speaking to TalkSPORT.

Dalot admitted that Amorim accidentally started speaking Portuguese to the entire United squad near the beginning of his reign.

The United defender would have understood perfectly, but his teammates were left baffled.

Dalot certainly had sympathy for Amorim, having been in the exact same position upon his own United arrival in 2018.

Dalot also praised Amorim for trying to speak English as quickly as possible, just to make sure that nobody in the United squad felt left out.

“It was funny because sometimes he was so used to it in the beginning, to speak Portuguese, that he would start speaking Portuguese to all the players,” said Dalot.

“And the players were like: ‘Boss, come on, you’re speaking [Portuguese]’. And he was like: ‘Oh, sorry!’

“And he started already with English, but it’s a normal adaptation, I’ve been there. When I arrived, it was exactly the same. I think it [speaking English] was something that he obviously tried to make sure as soon as he arrived, to adapt really quick for everybody not to feel [left out].

“Obviously, sometimes it’s easier for him to communicate in Portuguese in the first few months. But now I think it became completely normal for him to speak English,” he added.

Diogo Dalot message to Manchester United squad

Dalot has taken on a key role under Amorim and we can’t see that changing any time soon.

The former Porto star is featuring as a right wing back under Amorim and has impressed of late, scoring against Real Sociedad and bagging an assist against Leicester City.

Dalot has now sent a message to the United squad, calling for more consistency in order to take a major step forward under Amorim.

“Overall, I think we are improving,” said Dalot. “We are playing better, controlling more games in possession and without possession, so [that is] something positive that we can take for the coming games.

“But in the end, we need to start being more consistent in terms of results and winning more games,” he added.

Dalot is seeing encouraging signs under Amorim, but clearly feels that United have a long, long way to go before challenging at the top of the Premier League table again.

Hopefully, that jump will come down the line, with Dalot seemingly set for a huge role in Amorim’s plans moving forward.
