Diogo Dalot creates six chances in Manchester United victory

Diogo Dalot has been one of Manchester United’s big winners since Erik ten Hag took over as manager.

Into his fifth season at Old Trafford, Dalot is player better than he ever has done, and last night’s win over Omonia was another step in the right direction.

The right-back created six goalscoring chances, more than any player on the pitch, one better than Christian Eriksen with five.

Diogo Dalot creates six chances

Dalot was incredibly unlucky not to end the game with an assist. He did everything he could to lay on a goal for teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in the second half.

The right-back rounded the goalkeeper and passed for Ronaldo to seemingly tap into the net, but somehow the forward contrived to miss.

Dalot would have been better off attempting to shoot himself, with hindsight, although at the time it seemed his pass was the right decision.

His performance was especially encouraging as United were strong defensively down the right side too.

He linked up well with Antony, who worked hard tracking back, and the pair are showing early signs of forming a strong partnership.

This was United’s 10th game of the season and Dalot has started all 10, which reflects his importance to the team.

Rather than tiring, Dalot’s performance showed he is continuing to improve and the attacking side of his game is really beginning to bear fruit.

He scored two goals during the international break for Portugal, and he has had a dramatic turnaround on where he was a year ago, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could not bear to select him unless he had to.
