Manchester United cult hero Dimitar Berbatov has dropped his scoreline prediction for the Red Devils’ upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Manchester United will travel to Villa Park for their forthcoming fixture, with Erik ten Hag’s men keen to build momentum on their pursuit for a top-four finish.
The Red Devils played Unai Emery’s men in December 2023 and pulled off a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Villa are currently fourth in the league table and are eight points clear of sixth-place United, with Emery’s side challenging for a top-four spot this season.
However, the Premier League side have experienced a mixed set of results recently, including a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in their fourth-round FA Cup replay on Wednesday.
Villa thrashed Sheffield United 5-0 away from home last week, but Emery’s team lost 3-1 to Newcastle at Villa Park in the Premier League last month.
United, on the other hand, are undefeated in their last five Premier League matches across all competitions.
Berbatov’s prediction for Aston Villa vs Man Utd
Manchester United have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup and secured back-to-back Premier League wins this month.
Erik ten Hag’s men defeated Newport County 4-2 in the fourth round of the FA Cup before beating Wolves away from home in a 4-3 thriller in the Premier League.
United built on their recent momentum and beat West Ham last Sunday in a 3-0 win at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils keeping their top-four ambitions alive.
Dimitar Berbatov has now predicted that United will play out a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday, saying that he “cannot call” who will win the match.
“A draw with goals because both teams have great young players that are hungry for goals and they’re hungry to show how good they are,” he told the Metro.
“Based on this, I’d like to see goals, but I cannot call who will win this one.”
Ten Hag sends message to Man Utd players
Speaking ahead of the Villa match on Thursday, Ten Hag reiterated that his players must treat every match like a final if they hope to stay in the race for the top four.
“I have said to the team from the start of January that every game is now a final,” he said.
“That was also our approach to West Ham United – we were one point behind them, so this is a final.
“So, let’s take this challenge. We have to see this as a final.
“That will be every game from now on, for us. We are already in that mood.”
