Gary Neville has taken a brutal swipe at two celebrity Manchester City fans and the Manchester United legend didn’t hold back with his feelings either.
Manchester United on Thursday announced that they had collaborated with Adidas for a kit inspired by fan-favourite Manchester-based rock band The Stone Roses.
The United shirt’s colour scheme pays tribute to the artwork from The Stone Roses’ self-titled album, which was released by the popular band back in 1989.
The Stone Roses-inspired shirt, which is available for £60 in the UK from United’s website, will not be worn by the Red Devils during matches.
But United and Adidas have launched a whole range of Stone Roses-themed merchandise, including a hat, a scarf, shorts, track pants and pre-match tops.
For The Stone Roses-inspired United shirt, the club’s crest features lemon slices in place of the two footballs and has the band’s song ‘This Is the One’ on the logo.
Gary Neville is a big fan of The Stone Roses and the Sky Sports pundit couldn’t resist the opportunity to aim a dig at one other famous Manchester band.

Neville’s swipe at celebrity Man City fans
Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Gary Neville candidly talked about his admiration for The Stone Roses and his love for the song ‘This Is the One.’
The former United defender insisted that The Stone Roses had a “massive impact” on the city, all the while taking a swipe at Oasis icons Liam and Noel Gallagher.
The Gallagher brothers are both big Manchester City fans and Liam hasn’t been afraid to pull no punches towards United amid the two clubs’ heated rivalry.
Neville revealed that he had “heard enough about Oasis” during his time at Old Trafford and argued that the city of Manchester had a “better band” than Oasis.
“When the manager made me captain and I knew I’d be leading the team out, I wanted a new song,” he said.
“I wanted us to come out to a song from Manchester. I just loved ‘This Is the One.’
“It felt to me like Old Trafford was the place where it all happened, and I’d heard enough about Oasis, for years. Manchester has got a better band than Oasis.
“The Stone Roses had a massive impact on the city. The song has stood the test of the time, but United help keep it alive every single week.
“When I’m up there now on the TV gantry and John Squire’s guitar starts to play, that moment still gives me goosebumps.
“If you’re a United fan and you hear that song starting, you know it’s time for the match to start.”
Neville brings Stone Roses’ influence to Man Utd
United defender Jonny Evans revealed that former teammate Neville was “responsible” for introducing ‘This Is the One’ to Old Trafford.
The Stone Roses’ song is played in the tunnel before a United match, with Evans saying that it is now “synonymous” for him with that experience.
“The song makes me feel at home and it is so synonymous with the tunnel for me… when the beat first kicks in, that feeling,” he said.
“I always remember when Gary Neville had Ian Brown singing it as he came out for his testimonial, it was actually pretty emotional.
“Gary was responsible for bringing this song to Old Trafford, I know he’s a big fan of The Stone Roses.
“When you have such a huge band like that coming from Manchester, it’s something to be proud of.
“It’s a ritual for the guys on a matchday. It is Manchester United’s anthem.”
