Diego Leon will have exactly 62 days to impress Ruben Amorim before Ineos make transfer decision

Manchester United will welcome Diego Leon to the club at the beginning of July.

In January, Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven arrived to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s squad for the second half of the season.

United also struck a £7m deal for Diego Leon, but the 18-year-old had to wait until the summer to join.

Leon will arrive at United on July 1st in time for United’s 2025 pre-season schedule, starting with a friendly against Leeds United on July 19th.

The Red Devils will then fly to the United States to participate in the Premier League Summer Series and each minute will be crucially important for Diego Leon.

Diego Leon will be assessed by Ruben Amorim this summer

Reports suggest that Leon could be loaned out next season with the Paraguayan wing-back viewed as a long-term signing by Ineos.

However, Leon looks like an incredible talent and he could arrive and immediately improve Amorim’s first-team options.

As reported by Manchester World, it has therefore been decided that Leon will be assessed over the summer before a plan is made for his 2025/26 campaign.

With the transfer window open until September 1st, it means that Leon will have exactly 62 days between his arrival on July 1st and the end of the summer window to convince Amorim he is ready.

Previous pre-season games have been pivotal for players such as Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Amass who worked their way into the first team after impressing on tour. Leon will hope to follow in their footsteps.

Diego Leon could follow Sekou Kone pathway at Man United

Leon is the latest young talent signed by Ineos as part of their new transfer strategy, joining the likes of Chido Obi and Sekou Kone who arrived before him.

Kone starred in United’s post-season tour in Asia, but it has not yet been decided whether he is ready for first-team action next season.

It is understood that Kone will likely join Lausanne on loan next season after taking the 2024/25 campaign to settle into new surroundings in Manchester.

The Manchester World report from above suggests Leon could do the same – spending next season in the youth academy before going out on loan.

United’s partnership with FC Lausanne makes it an ideal location for younger players who are ready to gain more senior experience abroad before returning to Manchester.
