Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher didn’t hesitate to reveal his clear-cut verdict on a penalty call in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.
Manchester United have now climbed to 14th place in the Premier League table after their result over Ipswich Town on Wednesday evening at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are now 16 points clear of the relegation zone, with 18th-place Ipswich left fighting for their place in the Premier League next season.
Ruben Amorim’s men were 1-0 down inside the opening five minutes after a howler from Andre Onana and a miscommunication from Patrick Dorgu.
However, United overturned the 1-0 deficit after Sam Morsy put the ball in his own net before Matthijs de Ligt put United 2-1 up only four minutes later.
Ruben Amorim’s side were reduced to 10 men before half-time after Patrick Dorgu was sent off and Jaden Philogene completed his brace in first-half injury time.
Harry Maguire restored United’s lead only two minutes after the break and the 10-man Red Devils held on in the second half to seal all three Premier League points.

Gallagher on Man Utd penalty shout
Manchester United have picked up only the ninth win in their lacklustre Premier League campaign, with the Red Devils tasting defeat 12 times in the league alone.
Ruben Amorim’s men are on course to miss out on challenging for a place in the top four, with fourth-place Manchester City 14 points clear of the Red Devils.
Alejandro Garnacho wanted a penalty in the first half of Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town and the United star’s call for a spot-kick was denied.
The 20-year-old Spain-born attacker was later hooked off before half-time and replaced with Noussair Mazraoui after Patrick Dorgu’s red card.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, Dermot Gallagher insisted that referee Darren England made the right call to ignore Alejandro Garnacho’s plea for a penalty.
“100 per cent. He’s felt contact and gone down too easily,” he said.
“The referee got that right because he’s worked hard to get into that position. He’s seen it and can almost hear the minimal contact and says no.”
Amorim on Man Utd’s FA Cup campaign
United will now resume their FA Cup title defence on Sunday and the Red Devils host Premier League side Fulham at Old Trafford for the fifth-round clash.
Amorim insisted that United “need to survive this season” and the Red Devils manager has said that his full focus is placed on the upcoming FA Cup tie.
“I just focus on the next game,” he explained after the Ipswich match.
“It’s really important for us to establish a little bit in the table. We need to survive this season and enjoy every game that we win and prepare for the next one.”
