Manchester United legend Denis Law is a true icon of the game and one of the club’s top goalscorers.

Denis Law passed away this week at the age of 84, leading to tributes from the football world.

The Manchester United legend is widely regarded as one of the best players to leave behind a long-lasting legacy at Old Trafford. You can see that at the stadium today because Law, also known as ‘The King’, has two statues – one in the Stretford End and another outside the ground.

One of United’s top scorers, Law was immortalised as part of the ‘Holy Trinity’ alongside fellow club legends George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton.

Charlton included Law in his all-time Manchester United XI in his autobiography, Sir Bobby Charlton: My Manchester United Years.

Law lifted two First Division titles and a European Cup during a legendary career at Old Trafford.

On top of that, Law won the Ballon d’Or award in 1964, during a season he scored 46 goals for Manchester United.

Denis Law hat-trick hero

United fans were gifted to a hat-trick on Thursday night when Amad Diallo inspired Ruben Amorim’s side to a 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League.

Hat-tricks are rare these days at Old Trafford, but Law passing away reminds us of his incredible record of 18 in a United shirt.

The closest any player has come since was United’s all-time record scorer, Wayne Rooney, with eight.

Law’s staggering record will take some beating.

Denis Law tributes flood in

The tributes for Law show how much of an impact he had during his career.

To United fans, he is The King.

Former United captain Bryan Robson, who worked with Law in an ambassadorial role for the club, said we have lost one of football’s best players and a gentleman.

“We have lost one of football’s giants both as a player and a gentleman. It’s incredibly said,” Robson said in a column in the Daily Mail.

“Denis was more than just a fantastic football, he was a fantastic man. So generous with his time and everything delivered with that great sense of humour of his.

“He would always be in my greatest ever Manchester United XI. He was a player so many of his peers idolised and with good reason, that iconic image of him with his sleeves pulled down and the one-arm salute after scoring.

“No one could represent what Manchester United stood for better than him. Full of flair on the pitch and a gentleman off it.”

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney took to Instagram to share his tribute, writing: “Legend. Thoughts with all Denis’ family and friends.”
