Legendary former Manchester United full-back Denis Irwin was full of praise for Luke Shaw’s performance against West Ham last night.
Shaw was a strong attacking outlet down the left and also helped United to a fourth straight Premier League clean sheet.
That’s the first time United have enjoyed four consecutive league shutouts during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.
And speaking to United’s official website, Treble-winning left-back Irwin was effusive in his praise for Shaw’s display.

“Luke has been brilliant this year, he really has,” said Irwin. “He is in a rich vein of form at the moment and I thought he was very composed, defensively and in attack.
“In the first half, it [the left flank] was probably the area where we thought we would get something from the game in terms of attacking and it opened up in the second half.
“He was just so good. It is easy to single Luke out, but the whole defence was great and you wouldn’t say any anybody played poorly. We could have scored more goals but Luke is the standout performer at the moment.
“Confidence, it’s all about confidence.”
One moment in the second half summed up Shaw’s current confidence and composure.
Late on, he was played into a tight corner against the touchline, facing United’s goal – but produced a smooth Cruyff turn to spin out of danger and keep possession.
Shaw has been United’s best player since the turn of the year.
He was outstanding up against Mo Salah at Anfield and has taken the confidence from that performance ever since.
Irwin knows exactly what it takes to excel as a United full-back and when he’s this impressed, you know Shaw is doing an awful lot of things right.
