Demetri Mitchell is thriving on his loan away from Manchester United and has a chance to create history.

The young left-back is playing a key role at Hearts as they top the Scottish Premiership.

Hearts are five points clear at the top after seven games and are growing confident of a title challenge, having already beaten Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

One to watch

Mitchell has started in each of Hearts last five games, featuring both at left-back and in midfield.

He is gaining valuable first team experience and if he can help Hearts break the Scottish football dominance and win the title, his name will go down in history.

Celtic have won the last seven league titles and no team outside of them or Rangers have won it since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen in the mid-80s.

Mitchell has played 35 games for United’s under-23s and loans are currently the best for his development. He is rising to the challenge.

He has one first team appearance under Jose Mourinho, against Crystal Palace at the end of 2016/17.

Luke Shaw is United’s first choice left-back but Mitchell has a chance of becoming a legitimate challenger for his position in the future.

He is an England youth international and his loan spell will only make him better.

When he returns to United next summer he will hope to come back as an unlikely champion, and as a first team player.
