Manchester United youngster Diogo Dalot has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy Award for 2018.

The award is handed out to European football’s top talent under the age of 21 and is selected by a panel of journalists from Italy, Spain and France.

Dalot is on a 40 player shortlist and is the only Manchester United player to feature.

United paid £19 million to sign Dalot from Porto in the summer and he has impressed when given a chance to replace Antonio Valencia at right-back.

Can Dalot follow in famous footsteps?

Last year the award was won by PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.

Previous winners also include a few familiar faces.

The 2015 winner was United’s Anthony Martial and in 2013 it was won by Paul Pogba.

The 2008 award was given to Anderson, while Wayne Rooney won in in 2004.

Dalot is up against it because the award is rarely given to defensive players, but just to be nominated puts him in esteemed company.
