Manchester United are set for a busy July with pre-season set to kick off in just over a week’s time.

The club’s first pre-season game is on July 12, and Manchester United are already preparing. Lisandro Martinez has been pictured back at Carrington already.

Seven players have been released, including Phil Jones, while Zidane Iqbal has been sold to Utrecht.

There is also the matter of incoming, with United agreeing a fee to sign Mason Mount, per The Athletic.

Announcements we anticipated which won’t be happening

Two possible deals related to deals for Serie A players which won’t be happening.

Kim Min-Jae was a defender heavily linked to Manchester United, per Il Mattino, who has a release clause which can be activated from July 1. However, he has agreed personal terms on a move to Bayern Munich, per Fabrizio Romano, and United are not expected to move.

Another name linked was Adrien Rabiot. His Juventus deal was set to expire on June 30 and The Athletic reported this week that Manchester United had made contact. However, BBC Sport report Rabiot has now signed a one-year extension at Juventus.

Business already concluded

United have released seven players; Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Hanbury, Manni Norkett, Charlie Wellens, Di’Shon Bernard and Ethan Galbraith. Zidane Iqbal has also been sold.

United have also activated one year extensions on the contracts of goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop.

Youngster Mateo Mejia has also this week penned a one-year extension after agreeing a new deal.

The club confirmed on June 30, as a point of clarification, that Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer’s loan deals have expired.

Ethan Laird has also been sold to Birmingham City, United confirmed.

Possible deals to expect on July 1

An announcement over the Mason Mount deal is expected. He is due to undergo a medical and if United can move quickly, a deal could be concluded imminently.

A decision is also due on David de Gea, who will be a free agent from July 1. Whatever happens next, United owe him clarity. Currently the club say ‘discussions remain open’.

If he is staying, on reduced terms, United should communicate that. Or if the contract offer has been withdrawn or there is no agreement, United should make an announcement to thank him for his 12 years of service. So far, the club have handled this poorly.

It is possible an agreement for Andre Onana is announced, if developments move quickly.

Don’t be surprised either, if there is a sale announced for Dean Henderson, to free up funds.

Also due to be concluded

There are three further items outstanding for Manchester United. One of those is Marcus Rashford‘s contract, which is set to expire in 2024.

Another is a decision on the future of Mason Greenwood. He is currently under suspension, and wants clarity on his career, one way or another.

The big one awaiting is news of the Manchester United takeover. The news the Glazers are leaving is what every fan wants to hear, and Bloomberg report Sheikh Jassim is the expected new owner. However, there is no timeframe on a possible announcement.
