David Moyes gives emphatic verdict on Erik ten Hag at Man United, his stance is clear

David Moyes is one of very few people who know exactly what Erik ten Hag is going through at Manchester United.

The Scotsman has been there and done that at Old Trafford. David Moyes was tasked with leading Manchester United into the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Sir Alex played a big part in his appointment in 2013 after viewing the then-Everton boss as the ideal candidate to continue United’s Premier League legacy.

However, Moyes crashed and burned at United and lasted just 10 months before being sacked with the Red Devils seventh in the league table.

Moyes has since said he should have been given more time at United, but club legend Wayne Rooney said Moyes was “always going to struggle” after making the switch from Everton.

David Moyes shares view on Erik ten Hag

Moyes is currently unemployed after leaving West Ham at the end of last season following a five-year stint with the Hammers.

Ten Hag finds himself under huge pressure at Old Trafford after an underwhelming start to the season, and the Dutchman could still be sacked with United’s hierarchy meeting in London on Tuesday to discuss his future.

If Ten Hag is sacked, it’s fair to assume that Moyes will not be in the running to succeed him, although there are as many as 10 potential Ten Hag replacements that could be considered.

However, Moyes has launched a strong defence of Ten Hag when asked about the United boss.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Moyes said: “I think he showed brilliant resilience in the situation he is in.

“I think he should be credited for how well he has conducted himself. As far as I know, I have not seen him ducking any questions or media interviews, so I think you have to give him great credit for that.

“But it is a job that is going to attract immense pressure and people talking, so I have to say I think he is doing a brilliant job.”

Will Erik ten Hag be sacked at Man United?

It is the burning question at Manchester United at the moment. Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave Ten Hag two games to turn things around.

But after back-to-back draws with Porto and Aston Villa, his future still hangs in the balance. Ultimately, his future will be decided by the club chiefs over their meeting.

It is a difficult decision to make – Ten Hag has failed to win any of his last five matches but has also only lost once in the last seven.

Ineos didn’t pull the trigger over the summer after Ten Hag lifted the FA Cup, but their best opportunity to make a change is during this international break.

A firm decision will need to be made either way so that United can focus on the season ahead.
