Manchester United legend David de Gea has had “several options on the table” amid dropping cryptic hints about his future in football, according to stunning reports.

David de Gea, who lifted a Premier League title with Manchester United in 2013, became a free agent last July after he ended his 12-year stay at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old Spaniard was reportedly keen to sign a new contract at United and was prepared to take a pay cut in a bid to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

However, talks over a new deal broke down in 2023 and De Gea was allowed to leave the Red Devils after his 12 seasons at United.

Erik ten Hag was reunited with former Ajax shot-stopper Andre Onana in 2023, with the Cameroon international succeeding De Gea as United No 1.

De Gea attracts transfer interest from four clubs

Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson brought David de Gea to Old Trafford in 2011 after he was signed from Atletico Madrid.

De Gea overcame a tough early start to life at Old Trafford and went on to achieve incredible success during his prolific playing career at United.

The United legend lifted the Premier League title, a Europa League trophy, an FA Cup and a League Cup with the Red Devils before leaving Old Trafford.

De Gea, who lifted the Premier League Golden Glove in his final season with United, has remained a free agent since his exit from the Red Devils in 2023.

The Athletic has now reported that the former Spain international has attracted interest from clubs, despite his time out of football as a player.

It has been reported that offers for De Gea have come in from a club in Italy, one side in Italy and another team from Saudi Arabia.

According to The Athletic, an unnamed club in England had ‘also expressed interest’ in the former United No 1.

However, the publication reports that De Gea ‘not want to return to the country’ where he made his name with United and ruled out England as a destination.

The Athletic added that De Gea ‘expects’ further news about his club future ‘next week,’ with the United legend appearing to patiently wait for his next move.

De Gea has teased fans on social media in recent months with training clips and suggestions that a return to football could happen in the future.

The former United shot-stopper has attracted interest from clubs since his Old Trafford exit, including speculation linking him with a return to his native homeland.

De Gea on Saturday took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, and shared an hourglass emoji in a tweet amid the latest cryptic hint over his football future.
