Nobody could blame David de Gea if he chose to walk away from Manchester United at the end of the season, given all that he has experienced through the years.
Many players who have given a decade to a club, largely bereft of success, would choose to take the shortcut to silverware, and nobody would begrudge him.
If De Gea chose to head to Bayern Munich, PSG or Real Madrid, should an opportunity present itself, many Manchester United fans would simply view it as a well earned opportunity. He’s given United more than we could have asked for, other the years.
De Gea has looked totally fed up at times during his Manchester United spell, often propping up a totally wretched defence. He has frequently saved United from embarrassing results, even just last season, he looked miserable..
It hasn’t all been perfect. Sometimes amid the pressure, De Gea’s form has slipped too. Nobody escapes criticism, him included. And if De Gea wanted to pack it in for a new start, well, good for him, especially with regular rumours of new goalkeeper arrivals swirling.
De Gea has a different approach. He is determined to stay put at Old Trafford and could even agree a wage cut to do so, BBC Sport report.
So with every reason to justify quitting Manchester United, just why is David de Gea so keen to stay? Look no further than manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag is providing reasons for De Gea to want to stay
New manager Erik ten Hag is providing reason for David de Gea to want to stay, despite everything the goalkeeper has been through.
De Gea has seen all this before of course, playing under countless new managers. Erik ten Hag could be different. Everything we have seen so far suggests he is the man to turn Manchester United around.
Ten Hag has provided a solid defence. Set aside the two games against Brentford and Manchester City which look to be freak results, and United have conceded only 10 goals in the other 15 Premier League games played.
United have the best defensive midfielder in the world operating in front of the defence with Casemiro, and two World Cup winners at centre-back.
There is arguably no better situation De Gea could swap for. It’s why he has spoken of his optimism at getting a contract extension over the line.
The Spaniard was quoted telling BBC Sport he now hopes to stay at United for the rest of his career. And best of all, he is back to producing the kind of form which can justify such a desire.
Erik ten Hag is the man to thank for both De Gea being back on form, and wanting to stay. A contract extension looks likely, and just a matter of how long for.
