Darren Fletcher is currently preparing for his first match as Manchester United head coach after stepping up as interim after Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

Manchester United confirmed on Monday morning that Ruben Amorim was sacked less than 24 hours after drawing 1-1 with rivals Leeds United.

Ruben Amorim’s dismissal was a decision not borne of results, but instead because of his incendiary comments made towards the club’s hierarchy.

Darren Fletcher led Man Utd to 7-0 win vs Liverpool

For United fans wanting to know about Fletcher’s style of play as a manager, a quick glance at his record with the Under-18s reveals a lot.

Fletcher was appointed Manchester United Under-18s head coach last summer, and he boasts a good record in charge of the academy side.

But easily his biggest win and most defining moment so far came against arch-rivals Liverpool back in November, when Fletcher’s U18s side scored a huge 7-0 win.

United wonderkid JJ Gabriel scored a hat-trick against Liverpool in the emphatic victory, while recent debutant Bendito Mantato was also on the scoresheet.

Fletcher has often used a 4-2-3-1 formation in charge of United’s U18s, but he made some noticeable tweaks for the Liverpool victory.

How Man Utd could line-up in Darren Fletcher’s 4-1-4-1 formation

As per Transfermarkt, Fletcher tweaked his system and lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation for the dominant win over Liverpool.

Exciting midfield talent Jim Thwaites was given licence to roam in midfield, breaking away from Fletcher’s usual double pivot.

His midfield partner Jay McEvoy played a more disciplined, defensive role and sat deeper. It gives United fans an idea of what to expect on Wednesday.

If Fletcher lines up in a similar shape on Wednesday, this is a line-up that fans can expect to see. A staggered midfield three allows space for Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo to play in front of Casemiro.

In defence, Fletcher is expected to return to a back-four shape, meaning Luke Shaw can return to a left-back role.
